Natural grass-fed beef from Pleasant Valley Farm and Hellebuyck's Gelbveigh farm.
The cattle of Pleasant Valley Beef are raised and finished on pastures of mixed grasses and legumes. Our farms have several pastures to raise our Angus cross and Gelbveigh cattle on leafy greens. They receive an ample supply of natural kelp, salt, and fresh water. Kelp contains more than fifty vitamins and minerals absorbed from the ocean waters in which it grows. Our cattle are free from antibiotics and growth hormones.
Grass-fed beef is better for you!
Grass-fed beef is four to six times lower in fat than grain-fed beef and contains only half of the saturated fat, making it as lean as poultry and wild game. This reduced-fat content also makes it significantly lower in calories than grain-fed beef. Grass-fed animals pose a lower E. coli health risk to humans than do grain-fed cattle. Also, grass-fed beef contains more Beta-carotene, Omega-3 fatty acids, CLA, and vitamin E.
Beta-carotene rich:
Beta-carotene is used by the body to make vitamin A and is also a powerful anti-oxidant protecting cells from free-radical and oxygen damage. It also plays a roll in preventing cancer cell growth and cardiovascular disease. Grain does not contain a significant amount of beta-carotene, resulting in whiter fat. Meat with yellow fat is higher in beta-carotene, but is considered unappealing to the grain-driven feedlot industry, primarily because they cannot produce it. Once people become educated about the cause of this color difference and the health benefits associated with the yellow fat they will quickly prefer it. As people prefer free-range chicken eggs for their rich yellow egg yolks.
Omega-3 fatty acids:
Omega-3 fatty acids, important to the healthy function of the brain and linked to lowering blood pressure, fighting depression, and reducing cancer, are produced by living green plant leaves. By contrast, a diet to rich in omega-6 fatty acids, which are found in seed heads (grains), has been linked to obesity, diabetes, immune disorders, and cancer. To function well, our bodies need a balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. For many of us, a diet high in grain (including grain fed beef) has our bodies out of balance. Grass-fed beef is three times higher in omega-3 fatty acids than grain-fed beef. In fact, the balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in grass-fed beef is almost the ideal ratio required by our bodies!
CLA and vitamin E:
Grass-fed beef contains five times more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which can prevent and even reduce cancer-cell growth, and four times more vitamin E than grain-fed beef. Vitamin E helps form red blood cells and is a powerful antioxidant that aids in the prevention of heart disease and cancer. Only grazing green leafy grasses will provide these health benefits!
